The world premiere of Dénes Nagy’s debut feature was at the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale), where he was awarded the Silver Bear for Best Director. The film was also recognized by the Hungarian Motion Picture Festival, where it was awarded the Best Screenplay and Best Costume. In March 2021, the Hungarian film critics’ B. Nagy László prize, which is the main prize of The National Association of Hungarian Journalists (MÚOSZ) Film and Television Critics Section and The Association of Hungarian Filmmakers Critics Section was also awarded to Natural Light.

Natural Light takes place in World War II, in the occupied territories of the Soviet Union. In an unrecognizable, swampy forest, István Semetka, a Hungarian farmer serves as a Caporal in a special unit scouting for illegal partisan groups in the countryside of hidden Russian villages. The story depicts the everyday lives of soldiers through the perspective of Semetka, who receives a heavy burden on his shoulders due to the unexpected death of his commander.

Márton Ágh’s previous production design works include Kornél Mundruczó’s Delta, White God and Jupiter’s Moon, Bálint Kenyeres’s Hier and Márk Bodzsár’s Comrade Drakulich.
