Marcell Jankovics animation film director and Líviusz Gyulai graphic designer have received the life achievement award of the 50 - year-old film festivals of Szolnok.
György Szemadám painter, writer and film director remarked in his laudation that Marcell Jankovics is not only known as animation filmmaker but also as an illustrator and cultural historian. His name is tied with the first full length animation festure film, John the Valiant, the Hungarian Folk Tales - one of the most popular children program of the Hungarian Television, also the animation version of the Tragedy of Man. He has written many books, so his lifetime achievement award wasn’t only for the animation filmmaker, but the polyhistor himself.
Líviusz Gyulai is the last mohican of the graphic designers' generation of the 1960's, 70's. Líviusz Gyulai is a master of all techniques, well-known for his tint-drawing, copper engraving, woodcut, litograph, and aquarelle. Each of his work is marked by a unique style, magisterial graphical knowledge, a rather grotesque but intelligent humour which has a complex meaning. The same can be said about his animation films, which he directs since 1975. His life achievement award honors the animation filmmaker and his continuous and exceptionally lineal career.
