When a director dreams about a film, it is very usual that s/he also writes the script - at least this is the practice in Hungary.
The cameraman joins the creation of the film at the second step.
At the preparation period the filmmakers connect and brainstorm together, then the realization of the film starts. At this point the production designer arrives - who is a confidential colleague - and who needs to be a dreamer and at the same time s/he has to be flexible adjusting to the circumstances to create what the director imagines the most authentical s/he can.
The production designer creates worlds with the help of built elements or already existing.
In these spaces and worlds, the actors affray in front of the camera; if the space works well, the story comes alive. If the viewer does not see all the elements in this space, a well-prepared set functions on its own and at the adequate point the right elements appear in front of our eyes. There are no unnecessary details or deficits, the whole breath and functions together in a real team work.
For me the biggest challenge was the tale, the fantastic world of sci-fi. I tried to create this in my diploma film as well, in which Lőrinc Boros and his team has dreamed of a space similar to Wes Anderson only using natural elements.
The point of the tale is to show the boundless borders of the imagination where the colors and materials have important role. In my film’s story a girl arrives from the water to the land where she should feel at home in this harsh, cruel and insensitive space.
This scares her and forces her to escape. The task which was to show precisely the procedure that she distances herself physically, feels driven to the wall and at the end she has no other choice but to return to the well-known reality, was completely the work of Lőrinc Boros.
The work of those who make the film can be appraised one by one, has goodwill value which shall be awarded. The experiences shall be shared with those who specifically come to the festival at first hand for getting information and to ask their questions.
